As part of the Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia’s commitment to the Government’s digital continuity policy the courts are changing the way court orders are accessed.

Faster access to your court orders online, anytime!

The move to completely digital court orders will be rolled out in two stages.

  1. From 1 July 2017, the courts will no longer post hard copies of sealed orders by mail to legal representatives. Court orders (except for consent and appeals) will be signed and sealed electronically and available to download from the Commonwealth Courts Portal.

  2. This will be extended to all parties from 1 January 2018.

These changes provide for faster and more secure delivery of court orders to all parties.

Accessing your orders is quick and easy!

Simply register for the portal - www.comcourts.gov.au, link to your firm and files, set your email notifications and get instant access, 24/7 to your court files and download your orders as soon as they are available. For step-by-step guides to using the Portal see How do I for lawyers.

If you’re already registered and using the Portal see ‘Viewing and downloading orders’ for more details about accessing orders at How do I navigate through the Commonwealth Courts Portal - for lawyers.

Please note: This is not a retrospective change. Past orders issued before 1 July 2017 may not be available on the Portal. The usual application process for requesting a sealed copy of orders will still be required for past orders.
