The Federal Circuit Court of Australia operates from two court locations in Sydney for matters relating to general federal law:

  • Lionel Bowen Building – levels 3 and 4, 97-99 Goulburn Street (courtrooms only)
  • Terrace Tower – levels 8, 9 and 13, 80 William Street (courtrooms only)

General federal law cases for the Federal Circuit Court may be listed for hearing at either the Lionel Bowen Building or Terrace Tower.

Enquiries and Filing

All enquiries and filing of documents for the Federal Circuit Court must take place at the registry of the Law Courts Building at Queens Square (level 17).

The Registry’s telephone number is (02) 9230 8567. There are no registry or filing facilities at Lionel Bowen Building or Terrace Tower.

Arriving at the wrong court location

If you arrive at the wrong location you must notify court staff immediately. You will be asked by court staff to make your way to the Lionel Bowen Building or Terrace Tower where all Federal Circuit Court cases are listed for hearing. Court staff will inform the other court location that you are making your way to the correct court location.

Where is Lionel Bowen Building?

The Lionel Bowen Building is located at 97-99 Goulburn Street, between Pitt Street and Castlereagh Streets, Sydney.

Where is Terrace Tower?

The Terrace Tower is located at 80 William Street, between Riley and Crown Streets, Sydney.

Where is the Law Courts Building (Queens Square)?

The Law Courts Building (Queens Square), is located at 253 Macquarie Street Sydney. There are entrances to the building on Phillip Street, Macquarie Street and on Queens Square.

How to get to the Lionel Bowen Building

By train

There are three train stations within walking distance of the Lionel Bowen Building.

  • Museum station on the corner of Elizabeth and Liverpool Streets is the nearest stop.
  • Town Hall (approximately 10 minutes walk away)
  • Central station (approximately 10 minutes walk away).

By bus

By car

There is a carpark at 101 Goulburn Street. The entry is in Goulburn Street close to the corner of Castlereagh Street.

By foot

From Queens Square to the Lionel Bowen Building: walk across both sections of Hyde Park to Liverpool Street and continue down Elizabeth Street to Goulburn Street (approximately 15 minutes).

By train

The nearest car park is situated at 100 William Street. There is also some on-street parking available.

By foot

From Queens Square to Terrace Towers: walk down Macquarie Street toward Archibald Fountain and turn left onto Prince Albert Road. Turn left onto St Marys Road, follow St Marys Road until Riley Street and continue down towards William Street.

How to get to Law Courts Building (Queens Square)

By train

There are two train stations within walking distance of the Law Courts Building (Queens Square):

  • St James station on the Corner of Macquarie Street. Take the Macquarie Street exit which will bring you directly out on to Queens Square.
  • Martin Place station. Take the Phillip Street exit, turn left and walk toward the corner of Phillip and King Streets. Martin Place Station is approximately three minutes walk away.

By bus

The nearest car park is situated next to the NSW Leagues Club on Elizabeth Street, near the corner of King Street.

By foot

From the Lionel Bowen Building to Queens Square: walk across both sections of Hyde Park to Macquarie Street (approximately 15 minutes).

From Terrace Tower to Queens Square: walk up Riley Street toward The Domain Park and turn left following St Marys Road until Prince Albert Road. Turn right onto Macquarie Street and continue to number 253 (Law Courts Building).
